Few names in power tools enjoy the long-standing reputation of DeWALT. All of their tools are backed up by an impressive three-year warranty because these tools are made to last. The DCK240C2 is no exception, packing some serious features and performance into a compact package.

The included impact driver manages 1,400 inch-pounds of torque; plenty for driving screws into just about any material imaginable. Of course, the drill wasn’t left out, getting an impressive 300 unit watts out (UWO) of power, making it one of the most powerful drills we tested.

Even though they’re powerful, these tools aren’t cumbersome in the least. They’re lightweight to avoid creating fatigue when using them for long periods. And the impact driver is especially compact, able to fit into the tightest spaces. And while you’re there, the built-in triple LED lights will ensure you can see what you’re doing.

To be fair, this kit is more expensive than other kits we’ve seen. But on top of the great quality of these tools, you also get convenient features like the large ½-inch chuck on the drill, or the easy ¼-inch chuck on the driver that allows for one-handed bit changes. All in all, we think this is the best drill driver combo available today.

2. CRAFTSMAN CMCK200C2 Cordless Drill Combo Kit – Best Value

The CRAFTSMAN CMCK200C2 Cordless Drill Combo Kit is more affordable than many of the kits we compared it against. Yet, they didn’t skimp on the quality or the included features, which is why we think this is one of the best drill and impact driver combo kits for the money.

The impact driver has an easy to use ¼-inch chuck that makes one-handed bit changes simple. And it’s a pretty powerful driver with even more torque than the DeWALT at 1,460 inch-pounds.

Don’t forget about the drill though, it’s quite competent in its own right. The large ½-inch chuck fits bigger bits and the two-speed gearbox allows for speeds up to 1,500 RPM. This one’s not quite as powerful as the drill included in the DeWalt kit with 280 UWOs, which is still a substantial amount of power.

Where the DeWalt kit really beats the CRAFTSMAN kit is in the overall design. The CRAFTSMAN tools, especially the impact driver, aren’t as compact or ergonomic as the DeWalts. You’ll have a harder time squeezing the bulkier impact driver into those tight spaces. But like the DeWalt tools, these ones have built-in LEDs, so at least you’ll be able to see.

Our premium choice pick is considerably more expensive than the DeWalt combo kit that earned our top spot. That said, the Ridgid Drill and Impact Driver Combo Kit has some great features that might warrant the higher price.

For instance, the impact driver in this kit packs a wallop with an impressive 2,250 inch-pounds of torque. That’s 850 more inch-pounds than the DeWalt impact driver makes. And it doesn’t stop there. Rather than any old drill, this kit includes a powerful hammer drill that produces a hefty 750 inch-pounds of its own and even has an adjustable handle to provide extra leverage.

Helping to make all that power are the Gen5X brushless motors. Not only do they make gobs of power, but they’re also very efficient, making for excellent battery life. And since this kit comes with two high-capacity batteries of four amp-hours each, you’re unlikely to have any battery problems with this kit.

On the downside, all that power makes these a bit heavier than some of the other tools we tested; a problem that’s exacerbated by the heavy batteries. Still, it’s hard to beat the impressive power and battery life that this kit provides.

4. Makita XT281S 18V LXT 2-Pc. Combo Kit

Lightweight and compact, the Makita XT281S 18V LXT Combo Kit benefits from being equipped with brushless motors. This means longer battery life, longer tool lifespan, and more power in a lighter package. To that end, these tools weigh just three pounds each, with the large 3Ah batteries installed. Thanks to those high-capacity batteries and efficient brushless motors, you’ll rarely have a dead drill.

More than just lightweight, these tools are very compact. If you often find yourself trying to squeeze your tools into too-small spaces, then the Makita kit might offer you a solution. However, this kit is considerably more expensive than similar competitors. You’ll have to decide if the weight savings and improved battery life are worth it.

Power-wise, this kit is on par with the DeWalt kit in our top spot. The impact driver makes 1,500 inch-pounds of torque, while the drill only manages 440 inch-pounds. Nothing to write home about, but certainly not lacking in the power department either.

5. Bosch CLPK22-120 Power Tools Combo Kit

The Bosch CLPK22-120 Power Tools Combo Kit is a great option when you need something that’s really compact and maneuverable but doesn’t have to be very powerful. These tools are 12V, so they’re not as strong as the 18V and 20V tools we’ve seen so far. But at just two pounds each, these tools are probably the lightest of all the ones we tested.

The tiny impact driver in this kit manages 265 inch-pounds of torque at speeds up to 1300 RPM. But the drill manages a more impressive 930 inch-pounds of torque at 2600 RPM; pretty hefty stats for a 12V tool. Still, that’s a long shot from the 2,250 inch-pounds of torque that the Ridgid impact driver makes.

Though not as powerful, the smaller 12V batteries do have another advantage; they charge quickly. These ones charge fully in just 60 minutes each. But we don’t think that’s enough to warrant the high price this kit goes for. You can get a much more powerful 20V kit like the CRAFTSMAN in the second position of this list for less than this BOSCH kit costs.

6. Milwaukee 2691-22 Compact Drill and Impact Driver Combo Kit

Though not quite as expensive as the Ridgid kit that earned our premium choice recommendation, the Milwaukee 2691-22 Compact Drill and Impact Driver Combo Kit is quite a bit pricier than most of the competition. However, this kit doesn’t earn the higher price tag with more powerful tools. In fact, these tools seem pretty average. The impact driver has the same 1,400 inch-pounds of torque that the DeWalt kit makes, but the drill makes just 400 inch-pounds of torque.

The one thing this kit does to earn the higher price is the warranty. All Milwaukee products are backed by a five-year warranty, ensuring that your investment is protected for quite a while. It’s also worth mentioning that these tools are pretty light and they do feel good in your hand. But they don’t feel any better than the DeWalts and they’re pretty similar in weight, yet the Milwaukee kit is substantially more expensive. For us, the DeWalt kit represents a better value.

7. PORTER-CABLE PCCK618L2 Cordless Drill Combo Kit

The PORTER-CABLE PCCK618L2 Cordless Drill Combo Kit is overpriced compared to most of the kits we tested. That said, the drill does pack more of a punch than the drill in the DeWalt kit that earned our top position. The DeWalt drill creates 300 UWO, while this PORTER-CABLE drill manages to produce 360 UWO of power. The impact driver isn’t quite as impressive, evenly matching the DeWalt’s 1,400 inch-pounds of torque.

Helping to make all that power are the efficient brushless motors that these PORTER-CABLE tools are equipped with. This means improved battery life and a longer lifespan for the tool overall, and it helps to explain a bit of that higher price tag.

Still, for the price, we think they could have offered more. Almost every kit we tested came with a carrying bag, but the PORTER-CABLE kit that outprices most of them did not.

8. SKIL CB739101 2-Tool Combo Kit

Though not as powerful as most of the other 20V kits we’re comparing, the SKIL CB739101 2-Tool Combo Kit manages to pack the power they do contain into a pretty small tool, particularly the impact driver. It’s producing 1,100 inch-pounds of torque. That’s not a head-turning figure by any means, but it’s in a package that’s small enough to fit into some truly tight spaces.

Unfortunately, this kit includes just a single battery. If it dies, you’re going to have to wait until it’s charged again before you use it. This is a serious inconvenience, which is why we prefer the kits that include two batteries.

One of the best features of this kit is the 5-year limited warranty that’s protecting these tools. But there’s a caveat: if you don’t register your tool kit within 30 days, your warranty will be void.

9. Metabo HPT KC18DGLS Hammer Drill and Impact Driver Combo Kit

All of the Metabo HPT tools are protected by their lifetime warranty, including the KC18DGLS Hammer Drill and Impact Driver Combo Kit. However, that’s probably the best feature of this kit. The included drill and driver aren’t the most powerful tools. The drill manages 487 inch-pounds of torque—not too bad, but the 1,280 inch-pounds that the impact driver produces certainly isn’t winning any awards.

But the worst thing about this tool kit is the battery life. These tools aren’t efficient on batteries, so they’re dying pretty quickly. Worse, the batteries included in this kit are just 1.5Ah each, so there’s not enough capacity for those all-day jobs. We’d suggest skipping this one and opting for a kit that’s got a bit more power and better battery life.

10. WORKPRO W004572A Cordless Drill Combo Kit

If you’re shopping for the cheapest drill and driver combo kit, you might be attracted to the WORKPRO W004572A Cordless Drill Combo Kit. It’s one of the lowest-priced kits we’ve seen, but even at this price, we don’t think it’s a great deal.

These tools are underpowered. With just 1150 inch-pounds of torque from the impact driver, you’ll have a hard time getting long screws installed all the way. And if you need to use the drill, you’ll almost certainly be hampered by the small ⅜-inch chuck.

Despite being weakly powered, this drill and driver are bulky and cumbersome. They’re significantly larger than the other ones we tested, which comes along with some hefty weight gains as well. Over a few hours, you’ll feel the difference in your arm muscles when they start to fatigue. This kit may be cheaper, but we don’t think you’re really saving money with it, since you’ll probably need to replace it with something more powerful in the near future.

Choosing the Right Drill and Impact Driver Combo Kit

All of these kits include a drill and an impact driver with a battery or two and a charger. But it’s what’s inside the drill and driver that makes such a difference. Though two tools might look similar on the outside, they can perform drastically different in reality.

When you’re searching for the perfect drill and driver combo kit, there are a few features you need to prioritize. Let’s take a look at each of those features and help you determine which ones are most important to you. 

Power

If your drill or impact driver can’t perform the tasks you need them to, then what good are they? That’s why power is the most important factor to consider and the one you should think about first. But that doesn’t necessarily mean you need the most powerful kit.

For impact drivers, your benchmark should be around 1,400 inch-pounds of torque. Less than this and you might encounter problems when using long fasteners or working with harder materials like hardwoods or metals.

Drills don’t usually need to be as powerful as impact drivers. The impact driver will do the hardest work, but you still want a drill that’s powerful enough not to bog down when making holes in harder materials.

 Size and Weight

If everything were just about power, then we’d probably have gigantic tools that were stuffed with massive motors. But form factor plays just as big of a role when choosing a new drill and driver combo.

Heavier, bulkier tools can wear you out when you’re working with them for several hours. They also just don’t feel as good in your hand. Plus, there are plenty of times when the space you’re working in is very limited. A bulky tool can make it much harder to work in those tight spaces.

There tends to be an inverse relationship between size/weight and power. So, more powerful tools are often larger and heavier. The opposite is also true. You can find very compact drill and driver combos in the 12V range, but they’re not as powerful as the larger 20V tools. You’ll have to decide if size or power is more important for your uses.

Chuck Size

Here, we’re particularly talking about the drill. Drills can have different-sized chucks, but two of the most common sizes are ⅜-inch and ½-inch. Generally speaking, ½-inch is the better bet most of the time.

The larger chuck allows you to use bigger bits. Plus, it gets a tighter grip on the bit, so the bit is less likely to spin. Finally, the larger bit size creates more torque and is less likely to snap under extreme pressure.

Brushless Motors

A lot of modern tools are now equipped with brushless motors that offer some serious benefits over the brushed motors of the past. What benefits? How about:

On the other hand, brushless motors are also quite a bit more expensive. You’ll be spending a good bit more if you want to get a kit with brushless motors, but thanks to the improved longevity, it will likely save you money in the long haul.

Batteries

All cordless tools run on batteries, making them one of the most important aspects of a drill and driver combo kit. If your battery dies and you don’t have a spare, you’re probably just out of luck, being forced to wait for your lone battery to charge.

Battery Capacity

That’s precisely the reason why battery capacity is so important. Batteries with a higher capacity will last for longer, allowing you to complete more work.

At the same time, a larger capacity battery is heavier and bulkier, so it’s a tradeoff.
