The 5 Best Chainsaws for Women
1. Tanaka TCS33EDTP/14 Chainsaw – Best Overall
The Tanaka TCS33EDTP/14 Chain Saw is favored by many technicians who need a lightweight and portable chain saw to take climbing with them. However, that doesn’t disqualify this model from use around the house, and it has a lot of features that make it a great choice for women. It has a sprocket-nose bar, which reduces friction, improving performance and reducing the chance of the chain popping off the bar. It also comes with automatic oiling and tensioning, so you don’t have to do as much maintenance.
It only weighs 12.4 pounds, making it a very lightweight chainsaw. If that weren’t enough, it comes with a massive, seven-year warranty for residential use, so if it ever breaks, you’ll be able to get the problem fixed for free. The only thing we don’t like is that the on/off switch often dies, but you can still turn it on and off through other operations. Overall, this is just a great chainsaw, but its weight and ease of use make it the best chainsaw for women that we have reviewed.
2. BLACK+DECKER LCS1240 12-Inch Cordless Chainsaw
The BLACK+DECKER LCS1240 12-Inch Cordless Chainsaw is battery-operated, so if you don’t want to mess with gas, this may be the saw for you. The 40V battery that comes with it gives you the power you need to cut through brush and trees and lasts a decent amount of time per charge. You can always expand your runtime by buying more batteries, though these can be expensive. This model also comes with automatic oiling and easy tensioning, so you don’t have to spend much time worrying about those activities.
This model weighs less than the previous saw, at just 10.4 pounds. That makes it one of the lightest chainsaws on the market, so if that’s something you value, you should definitely consider it. The one thing we don’t like is the automatic oiling system, which isn’t well-designed, and sometimes leaks. If that problem were resolved, we could easily rank this chainsaw first.
3. WORX WG305.1 Electric Chainsaw – Best Value
The WORX WG305.1 Electric Chain Saw is the lightest chainsaw on our list. It weighs just under eight pounds, making it easy to hold and move, and it won’t wear you out over extended use. It also comes with an auto-tensioning chain, which reduces the amount of work you’ll need to do to keep your chainsaw in tip-top shape. Plus, it is an electric model, so you won’t ever have to deal with gas.
This saw costs about a quarter of what you’ll pay for the second one on our list. That fact alone is enough to make it the best value for the money here. Since it’s a corded electric model and doesn’t need an expensive battery, it’s both lighter and more affordable. However, it does require the use of an extension cord, so it’s not as mobile as others. Overall, this is a great chainsaw for women and a good deal for anyone.
4. EGO Power+ 14″ Cordless Chainsaw
Something we love about the EGO Power+ 14-Inch 56-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Chain Saw is that it has a brushless motor. Brushless motors weigh less, are more power-efficient, and run cooler than brushed motors, and that makes for excellent overall performance. This chain saw weighs 11.4 pounds, so it’s not the lightest, but it’s not unreasonably heavy, either. It also comes with a chain kickback brake, which lessens the impact of kickbacks and makes the chainsaw easier to handle.
However, this model loses spots on our list because of its price. It’s far more expensive than many comparable electric chainsaws. Worse, it has quality control issues, including dead-on-arrival units. This greatly hurts its value, especially when it retails at a high price. If you ever find this chainsaw on sale, it might be worth a pickup, but it will be hard for most people to pay full price and get good value for their purchase.
5. Greenworks 16-Inch Corded Chainsaw
The Greenworks 16-Inch Corded Chainsaw (20232) does many of the things you expect of electric chainsaws correctly. It’s a corded electric model, so you won’t have to worry about gas or about keeping batteries charged, though you will need an extension cord. This model oils automatically, and it comes with a handy clear oil window that lets you keep tabs on when you need to refill. It also has easy push-button starting, so you don’t have to pull a ripcord to get it going.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t have automatic chain tensioning. You have to set it manually, and as your chainsaw warms up, it will need adjustment. Many users find that they have to adjust it multiple times per cut to keep it from slipping, which is something of a pain. This model also consumes a lot of oil, which can make it expensive to run. Overall, this is a decent chainsaw available at a low price, but it causes its users a lot of headaches.
When to Use a Chainsaw?
|Use Chainsaw||Don't Use Chainsaw|
|Cutting off tree limbs||Cutting grass|
|Chopping logs||Digging holes|
|Clearing heavy brush||Custom DIY woodwork|
|Ice fishing||Miter cuts|
The Tanaka TCS33EDTP/14 Chain Saw is the best model for women due to its light weight, automatic oiling and tensioning, and a seven-year warranty. The BLACK+DECKER LCS1240 12-Inch Cordless Chainsaw is battery-powered and has automatic oiling and easy tensioning, but its oil leak issues keep it out of the top spot. In third is the WORX WG305.1 Electric Chain Saw, which is the lightest chainsaw on our list. It also comes with an auto-tensioning chain and a fantastic price that makes it the best value for the money.
The EGO Power+ 14-Inch 56-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Chain Saw has a brushless motor, a chain kickback brake, and a lightweight, but its high price and quality control issues conspire to drop it to fourth. The last place goes to the Greenworks 16-Inch Corded Chainsaw (20232), which is electric and easy to start, but features a chain that slips frequently, and also consumes lots of oil.
Buying a chainsaw can be a tall order. We hope our reviews have made it seem simpler and have been helpful in finding the best chainsaw for your needs.
