Can You Use Rid-X in City Plumbing or a Regular Toilet? What You Need to Know

Rid-X Septic Tank Treatment Enzymes

If you’re in the home improvement store or the plumbing aisle, one product you’ll likely see is Rid-X. But while all the features of Rid-X sound great, if you don’t have a septic system, how useful is it? Can you even use it on one of these systems?

The truth is that while Rid-X certainly won’t hurt either of those systems, it won’t do anything for them either. We’ll break down everything you need to know about Rid-X and city plumbing and regular toilets for you here.

Can You Use Rid-X In City Plumbing or a Regular Toilet?

While nothing is stopping you from using Rid-X in city plumbing or a regular toilet hooked up to a traditional sewer system, there’s also no reason to do so. The product is perfectly safe for all plumbing and sewer systems, but Rid-X is specifically for cleaning septic tanks.

It won’t really help with clogs or preventive measures, at least not as well as other traditional methods like baking soda and vinegar. Because of this, we don’t recommend using Rid-X in city plumbing or a regular toilet, even though it’s perfectly safe to do so.

When Should You Use Rid-X?

If you have a septic system, Rid-X is a great additive. It settles into the septic tank and with a powerful combination of natural enzymes and bacteria it breaks down contaminants in the system.

If there’s a clog in the septic system, Rid-X might be able to help, but using Rid-X semi-regularly is a better way to go since it’ll help prevent these clogs and contaminants from building up in the first place.

When using Rid-X, you want to use it at a time when the system will get moderate to heavy usage. While it’ll work with less use, the more you use it the more it’ll stir up everything in the tank, allowing it to be more effective.

What Does Rid-X Do?

Rid-X is a 100% natural septic tank treatment system that breaks down various contaminants and helps establish a healthy bacteria content in the septic system that can more efficiently break everything down. More specifically, Rid-X helps with toilet paper, vegetable matter, food waste, fats, oils, grease, proteins, and starches. That’s a lot of help from just one product!

Do You Still Have to Pump a Septic Tank if You Use Rid-X?

Yes! Even though you’re using a product like Rid-X in your septic tank, that doesn’t mean you get to skip the septic pumps. You should pump out a septic tank once every 2 to 3 years depending on the size of the tank, the amount of use, and other factors.

But don’t skip pumping out the septic tank just because you’re using Rid-X. If you do, you’re only asking for problems down the road.

Final Thoughts

Now that you know a little more about Rid-X and how it works, if your plumbing hooks up to the sewer system, you can save yourself some money. If you’re still looking for ways to clean the drain, go with baking soda, vinegar, and some hot water. Not only will it save you some money, but it’ll also be a more effective option!
