Ford is one of the oldest and most well-respected carmakers in the world, but it got its start in the US. It only stands to reason that there are more dealers in the US than elsewhere, but how many are there? At the time of this writing, there are 2,998 Ford locations in the US. All 50 states have Ford dealers, and over 2,300 US cities have Ford dealers. Let’s check out some other info and Ford dealers at home and abroad.

What Is the Oldest Ford Dealership?

Car dealers come and go all the time, but one American family has kept their hands on what’s now the oldest Ford dealership: Tenvoorde Ford. In fact, Steve Tenvoorde signed the second-ever Ford franchise agreement in 1903. Going by history, this means that Tenvoorde Ford is actually older than the Ford Motor Company itself!

What US Ford Dealer Sells the Most Cars?

The title of best-selling Ford dealer has varied a lot over the years, with Galpin Ford in Los Angeles holding the title for 29 consecutive years. Recently, Brandon Ford of Brandon, Florida held the title in 2019. However, as of 2021, the Ford dealer who sold the most volume was Bill Brown Ford in Livonia, Michigan.

A few of the other top-selling Ford dealers in the US worth noting are Planet Ford in Texas and OC Welch Ford in Hardeeville, South Carolina. They have some of the largest Ford inventories across the US, though obviously not more than the others listed above.

How Many Ford Dealers Are in the World?

It’s difficult to get an exact number of how many Ford dealers across the globe, but Ford CEO Mark Fields claimed in 2017 that the company has 10,000 locations around the world. If true, this would mean that only about a third of the company’s locations are in the US.

What State Has the Most Ford Dealers?

Texas has more Ford dealers than any other state in the US with no less than 232 locations. Going by percentage, this means Texas has 7% of all the Ford dealers in the country and 2.32% of all Ford dealers in the world. Even taking into account how large Texas is, that’s a ton of F-150s and Fusions!

How Many Employees Does Ford Have?

As of 2019, Ford employs about 100,000 people in North America alone, and another source indicates they employ about 200,000 people worldwide.

However, the company’s website claims they employ 88,000 people in the US, with 57,000 of those being hourly workers. It’s most likely that those figures are simply out of date, but it’s interesting either way. The same site says that, in the US, Ford dealers employ more than 170,000 people, so it’s a bit confusing.car and road divider

Conclusion

Ford is one of the most enduring car manufacturers in the world, and its 2,998 locations across the US are a big achievement. Employing more than 100,000 in North America, the legendary automaker founded by Henry Ford isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. In fact, their recent commitment to electric-vehicle technology means there will be many more Ford dealers very soon.
