The 4 Tips for Picking the Right Spot for Your Bed

When selecting a location for your bed, you want the bed to be in a harmonious spot in the room. In other words, the design of the room will largely determine the best spot for the bed. Here are some tips for selecting the best bed spot in your bedroom.

1. Select a Commanding Spot

Because the bed is the most important piece of furniture in the bedroom, you want it to be in a commanding spot. In other words, you want to walk into the bedroom and see the bed first thing. Don’t try to tuck the bed into a corner or place it in an inconspicuous area since the bed should be the focal point.

2. Face Away from the Door

According to Feng shui, you want to place your bed in such a way that it is facing away from the door. You do not want the foot of your bed to be lined up exactly with the door. This placement is actually the biggest no-no in terms of bedroom Feng shui. So, make sure your bed faces away from the door.

3. Diagonal from the Entryway

One way that you can ensure that the bed faces away from the door is to place the bed on the wall adjacent to the door wall. That way, the bed is diagonal to the entryway. This position ensures that the bed is facing away from the door and places the bed in a commanding spot.

4. Leave Space on Both Sides of the Bed

So that your room is balanced and harmonious, try to leave space on both sides of the bed. You do not want to place a bed completely up against a wall. Not only is this unbalanced, but it can be difficult to make your bed and do other functional things.

Places You Should Not Place Your Bed

Now that we’ve learned tips for placing your bed according to Feng shui, are there any places you should not place your bed?

As mentioned above, you never want to place your bed so that it is lined up with the door. This position is called the coffin position, and it is the biggest thing to avoid when placing your bed.

This position is called the coffin position because your feet are lined up in a straight line with the door, almost replicating a coffin appearance. In Feng shui, this position is associated with a lot of negative energy, making it the number one position to avoid.

Other Bed Placement Tips

Here are some other tips to keep in mind to ensure you select the best Feng shui position for your bed:

Tips:
  • Work Within Your Means – The tips above are great if you have a large, spacious bedroom. However, not all bedrooms come with a lot of space. Because of this fact, it’s important to work within your means. If you have to break a rule, that’s OK if there is no alternative.
  • Try the Bedroom Mirror Trick – If you have a small room, it’s a good idea to use bedroom mirrors to open the space. With the use of a mirror, you can create an optical illusion to enhance the bed positioning. This bedroom mirror trick is awesome if you have to place the bed in an awkward position in reference to the door.
  • Headboard Represents Stability – The headboard is an important part of maximizing your Feng shui. The headboard is more than just an accessory. It also represents stability. For this reason, make sure to carefully select a headboard and position it correctly against the wall. The right headboard can make a huge difference in your bed’s placement and the room’s Feng shui.

Final Thoughts

So that your room looks balanced and harmonious, place a lot of attention on the bed’s placement. Place the bed in a commanding position so that it is away from the door, diagonal from the entryway, and has space on both sides.

Of course, it’s important to work within your means. Even if you have a small room that limits bed placement possibilities, mirrors maximize space, and you can select a headboard that represents stability in your home. Good luck!
