But you’ll need to get the pH right before using this product if you want to achieve maximum effectiveness. When we used it and the pH wasn’t adjusted properly first, our pool was still a bit murky after treatment. We also noticed that to completely clear the water in our pool, we needed to use a higher dosage than called for in the instructions. For these reasons, the Clorox Pool & Spa Super Water Clarifier fell short of our top three recommendations and will reside in the bottom portion of our list.

This Super Strength Clarifier from Rx Clear is a fast-working and powerful clarifier that eliminates cloudy and murky water by coagulating the floating particles in the water so that they clump together to be easily removed by your pool filter. Once you add it to the pool water, it will start working very quickly and you’ll notice results in just a few hours. However, to get that crystal-clear water that you’re imagining, you’re going to need to add more of this solution than with some of the other products we tested. It doesn’t seem to be quite as concentrated even though it’s marketed as a super-strength clarifier.

Purchased individually, the Rx Clear clarifier is one of the more expensive pool clarifiers that we tested. That said, you can save quite a bit by purchasing it in bulk, up to 12 bottles at a time. When bought this way, it’s one of the more cost-effective clarifiers available. But we think other options work just as well or better for less.

If you’re looking for a dirt-cheap solution to milky and cloudy pool water, then you may have stumbled upon the HTH Super Pool Clarifier. It’s one of the cheaper bottles of clarifier that we’ve seen. Despite the low cost, we did have a good experience with this product. The pool we used it on was pretty hazy after being opened for the season with a strong shock treatment. We followed the directions for the HTH Super Clarifier, and after more than 24 hours our pool had nice clean water.

The HTH clarifier requires a higher dosage to work effectively so a bottle won’t last as long as other brands. It’s also not quite as simple to use. The directions call for diluting some of it in a bucket of pool water first and then spreading it around the edge of the pool. We followed the instructions and it worked well, but we had similar effects from other products that didn’t require as much work upfront.

For starters, it’s a gel rather than a liquid or a tablet like the other clarifiers we’ve seen. You can add the gel into the water anywhere, you just have to get it in there somehow. Once you do, it starts working immediately. It’s even great for cleaning out the jets in a hot tub or the pipes that make up your pool filter system.

Our biggest complaint with this product is that it’s just not cost-effective. It comes in a very small container with just six ounces. You’ll need to use one ounce for every 3,000 gallons of water in your pool, so most pools will use up the entire bottle. That would be acceptable if this small bottle didn’t already cost several times what the other clarifiers cost. So not only are you paying more, but you’re getting way less and you even need to use far more to get a similar effect. It is an effective clarifier overall, but there are other effective clarifiers available for far less of an investment.
