  • The 7 Best Pool Clarifiers

    1. Tidal Vision Crystal Clarity Pool Clarifier – Best Overall

    Tidal Vision Crystal Clarity

If you’re looking for a way to eliminate the murky appearance of your pool water but you don’t want to add any more harsh and toxic chemicals into the mix, then the Tidal Vision Crystal Clarity Pool Clarifier is our pick for the best pool clarifier overall. It’s completely biodegradable and environmentally safe because it’s completely non-toxic and has no added dyes or fragrances.

This was one of the more powerful and concentrated pool clarifiers that we tested. It works very quickly and we started noticing the results in only a few hours. After about eight hours, our once cloudy pool was crystal-clear and looked as inviting as we’ve ever seen it. But you can easily add too much of this clarifier and accidentally turn the water a bit green so be careful to properly follow the instructions. Thanks to its quick and effective performance mixed with an affordable price, the Tidal Vision Pool Clarifier is our top recommendation.

    Pros
    • Non-toxic
    • Environmentally safe and biodegradable
    • Works quickly
    • Affordably priced
    Cons
    • Can easily add too much

    2. Robarb R20154 Super Blue Pool Clarifier – Best Value

    Robarb R20154

The Super Blue Clarifier from Robarb was another top performer that turned cloudy, murky pool water into perfectly clear water that was ready for swimming. To save money, you can purchase this clarifier in bulk and get a significant discount on the per-unit price, which we think makes this the best pool clarifier for the money. It removed all the small particles and sediment from our pool water without clogging the filter. It’s also easy to use since it works with all different temperatures and chemicals. We didn’t even have to make any changes or additions to our current chemical lineup. However, it does take about 12 hours to start seeing any change with this clarifier, and even longer for your pool water to be clear. But if you leave it to work its magic overnight, then you’ll awake to a clean and clear looking pool that’s just asking you to jump in.

    Pros
    • Available in bulk
    • Cheap unit price when purchased in bulk
    • Doesn’t clog filters
    • Works with different temperatures and chemicals
    Cons
    • Takes about 12 hours to take effect

    3. SeaKlear SKP-C-G Natural Clarifier

    SeaKlear SKP-C-G

Pools are already packed full of harsh chemicals so you may not be delighted at the prospect of adding a few more into the equation to try to clear out the haze left from all the other chemicals. If this is the boat you find yourself in, then the SeaKlear SKP-C-G Natural Clarifier is an all-natural, environmentally friendly solution. It’s made from recycled shells from the seafood industry. They would have ended up in a landfill, but now they’re repurposed to keep your pool sparkling!

When it comes to clearing your pool water, you can apply this clarifier liberally. It can’t be overdosed, so you don’t have to worry about overdoing it. Moreover, this product is available in gallon containers. This is convenient, but it’s also expensive. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to get it in a smaller size like the one-quart bottles that most of these products come in. But if you look at the cost per dose, it’s one of the more cost-effective clarifiers available. It’s a great choice for naturally clarifying your pool’s cloudy water, but there are other options available that won’t cost as much upfront.

    Pros
    • Made from recycled shells from the seafood industry
    • Can’t be overdosed
    • Comes in larger volumes
    Cons
    • More expensive
    • Can’t get it in smaller volumes

    4. Clorox Pool&Spa 58232CLX Super Water Clarifier

    Clorox Pool&Spa 58232CLX

The Clorox Pool & Spa Super Water Clarifier is another cost-effective pool treatment for murky and cloudy water. It works with all types of pools and even works with different types of pool filters. In our experience, it’s quite effective and turned pool water that was hazy and milky into nice, clear water that looked perfect for swimming. But you’ll need to get the pH right before using this product if you want to achieve maximum effectiveness. When we used it and the pH wasn’t adjusted properly first, our pool was still a bit murky after treatment. We also noticed that to completely clear the water in our pool, we needed to use a higher dosage than called for in the instructions. For these reasons, the Clorox Pool & Spa Super Water Clarifier fell short of our top three recommendations and will reside in the bottom portion of our list.

    Pros
    • Affordably priced
    • Turned milky water clear
    Cons
    • Takes more than the recommended dosage
    • Must get the PH right first

    5. Rx Clear Super Strength Pool Clarifier

    Rx Clear

This Super Strength Clarifier from Rx Clear is a fast working and powerful clarifier that eliminates cloudy and murky water by coagulating the floating particles in the water so that they clump together to be easily removed by your pool filter. Once you add it to the pool water, it will start working very quickly and you’ll notice results in just a few hours. However, to get that crystal-clear water that you’re imagining, you’re going to need to add more of this solution than with some of the other products we tested. It doesn’t seem to be quite as concentrated even though it’s marketed as a super strength clarifier.

Purchased individually, the Rx Clear clarifier is one of the more expensive pool clarifiers that we tested. That said, you can save quite a bit by purchasing it in bulk, up to 12 bottles at a time. When bought this way, it’s one of the more cost-effective clarifiers available. But we think other options work just as well or better for less.

    Pros
    • Can save money by purchasing in bulk
    • Works very quickly
    Cons
    • Not the most cost-effective option
    • Requires more solution for treatment than competing formulas

    6. hth 67012 Pool Clarifier

    hth 67012

If you’re looking for a dirt-cheap solution to milky and cloudy pool water, then you may have stumbled upon the HTH Super Pool Clarifier. It’s one of the cheaper bottles of clarifier that we’ve seen. Despite the low cost, we did have a good experience with this product. The pool we used it on was pretty hazy after being opened for the season with a strong shock treatment. We followed the directions for the HTH Super Clarifier, and after more than 24 hours our pool had nice clean water.

The HTH clarifier requires a higher dosage to work effectively so a bottle won’t last as long as other brands. It’s also not quite as simple to use. The directions call for diluting some of it in a bucket of pool water first and then spreading it around the edge of the pool. We followed the instructions and it worked well, but we had similar effects from other products that didn’t require as much work upfront.

    Pros
    • Dirt-cheap
    • Cleared out cloudy water
    Cons
    • Takes more than 24 hours to fully work
    • Requires more chemical per treatment
    • Needs to be diluted first

    7. Ahh-Some- 11006 Swimming Pool Clarifier

    Ahh-Some- 11006

The Ahh-Some Swimming Pool Clarifier is a unique formula that’s not quite like the other clarifiers that we used while testing products for this list. For starters, it’s a gel rather than a liquid or a tablet like the other clarifiers we’ve seen. You can add the gel into the water anywhere, you just have to get it in there somehow. Once you do, it starts working immediately. It’s even great for cleaning out the jets in a hot tub or the pipes that make up your pool filter system.

Our biggest complaint with this product is that it’s just not cost-effective. It comes in a very small container with just six ounces. You’ll need to use one ounce for every 3,000 gallons of water in your pool, so most pools will use up the entire bottle. That would be acceptable if this small bottle didn’t already cost several times what the other clarifiers cost. So not only are you paying more, but you’re getting way less and you even need to use far more to get a similar effect. It is an effective clarifier overall, but there are other effective clarifiers available for far less of an investment.

    Pros
    • Very quick working
    • Great for cleaning out jets
    Cons
    • An expensive solution
    • Get very little product for the price
    • Requires more frequent treatment than it calls for

    Conclusion

There are many different pool clarifier products on the market. While they are all intended to perform the same function, they do so with varying degrees of success. We wanted to find the most effective clarifiers that are available, so we set out to test as many as we could. Along the way, we wrote up some reviews comparing them, which helped us determine our top recommendations. Our pick for the best pool clarifier overall was the Tidal Vision Crystal Clarity Pool Clarifier. It’s non-toxic, environmentally safe, and biodegradable, it effectively clears the water very quickly, and it’s even affordably priced.

For the best value, we suggest checking out the Robarb Super Blue Clarifier. It works with different temperatures and chemicals and it won’t clog filters. If you purchase it in bulk, it’s one of the most cost-effective solutions available.
