Review Summary

If you know DeWalt, you know that many people are of the opinion that they make some really great stuff. Their saws, drills, and other tools are some of the most popular on the market and for good reason. They are generally pretty consistent in making high-quality products.

If you don’t know DeWalt, then just understand that they are quite possibly the biggest and most popular power tool company in the world.

But previous success certainly doesn’t guarantee the quality of future products, right? Just because they have made plenty of good stuff in the past does not mean that the DeWalt DCD780C2 drill is anything to run out and buy.

Today we are going to be taking a pretty in-depth look at this drill to determine if it is worth your time and money.

However, if you are looking for a little bit of preliminary information, there are a few things that we can mention now.

Based on the quality and specifications of this tool (as well as the price) this unit is almost more geared for contractors than DIYers. It is lightweight, powerful, and designed to operate in awkward angles.

Needless to say, these are all features that a home user will appreciate as well, but is it worth the money?

For that answer, you will need to read our DeWalt DCD780C2 review!

DeWalt DCD780c2 – a Quick Look

  • Powerful
  • Compact
  • Lightweight
  • LED Light
  • A higher than average price point
  • Battery loses power over time

Company: DeWalt

Model: DCD780c2

Weight: 6.6 pounds

Dimensions: 7.8 x 7.9 x 2.5 inches

Power Source: Battery

Maximum No-Load RPM: 2000

The benefits of having a compact tool are almost self-explanatory. When you use a drill, every so often you are going to have to access areas that are a little bit cramped or awkward. When these situations pop up, bulky tools are only going to make the quality of your work suffer.

The compact design that comes with this unit is going to help ensure that you can access the areas you need to with ease.

You don’t want to feel cramped or sore after a long day of work, do you? While it may not be particularly vigorous labor to use a power drill, it can be a little bit exhausting, especially when you are tackling a big job like building a deck.

In those instances, you’ll want a tool engineered with comfort in mind.

That is what you are getting here. The tool itself is very lightweight (only 6.6 pounds with the battery pack) which should mitigate the risk of fatigue, and the grip of the unit is optimized to be ergonomic so that it fits your hand as naturally as possible.

True to the trend that many high-end power tools are currently riding, this unit also features a built-in LED light near the chuck.

This small light is integrated to ensure that you have maximum visibility of what you are working on, even in areas with low visibility.

Are you always going to need this feature? No. And in fact, there are plenty of people out there who say that they never use it.

Still, it will certainly be handy to have on the occasion in which you do require a little bit of extra light.

Realistically, the motor is probably going to be the most important feature of any drill that you look at, and, true to DeWalt form, this unit comes equipped with a very good one.

We should start by mentioning that this drill’s motor produces two different speed settings. When you are handling smaller tasks that require a degree of nuance and delicacy, you are going to want to use the first setting, which features a range of speed between 0-600.

On the other hand, if you need a lot of juice, you can use the second-speed setting, which boasts a rotation per minute range between 0-2000.

This level of power and precision means that the DCD780C2 is going to be up for the task of handling just about any job you could throw at it. Always nice to see, right?

What kind of warranty does this product come with?

For all of its products (unless otherwise listed by the manufacturer) DeWalt offers a pretty standard warranty, with a 30-day money-back guarantee, one year of free maintenance, and a 3-year limited warranty.

Does this tool come with a case?

The DCD780c2 does come with a travel bag that should make the tool easy to transport if you need to use it in other locations.

Are bits included with this package?

Unfortunately, they are not. You will need to purchase the bits separately before the tool can be used.

What the Owners are Saying:

As is true with most DeWalt tools, the reception to this product has been very warm. In general, users appreciate the comfort optimized design, the impressive power, and versatility that the multiple speed settings create.

We have heard from both DIYers and professionals who all appreciate what this tool can do.

The biggest con that we have heard people mention is in regards to the battery. Evidently, after a few months of use, many people report that the battery is only able to hold a charge that last for a few short minutes.

It is hard to say if this is a rare defect, or, something that you should expect to happen.

Either way, it is certainly not good to see. The problem can be solved by purchasing a new battery, but many people may not want to do that, as they can be quite expensive.

And that’s that. The DCD780c2 is looking pretty good, right? While it does have a higher price point than other tools that are similar on the market, and there are some issues with the battery, for the most part, it is a really great tool that has many features that are worth celebrating. Whether or not that means you want to buy the tool is, of course, going to have to be for you to decide. We can’t tell you how to spend your money. We just hope that we helped you decide whether or not you want to take the DeWalt DCD780c2 home with you.
