  • The 10 Best Beginner Table Saws

    1. DEWALT DW745 Table Saw – Best Overall

    DEWALT DW745

The DEWALT DW745 is our top pick for the best beginner table saw that you can purchase today. There are many reasons for this, but the first and foremost one is the fact that, due to the elegant and ergonomic design of the table saw itself, it’s incredibly easy to handle and use. This is one of the most important things for any tool, and the DEWALT DW745 has this in spades. On top of this, due to the strong 15-amp motor, the DEWALT DW745 is an incredibly powerful machine, and it can cut through just about anything with enormous ease. This is very important for a table saw, and the DEWALT DW745 does so easily, while also being an incredibly durable piece of equipment due to the strong components that it’s made out of.

Some of the other great features of the DEWALT DW745 are things like the size and weight —only 45 pounds—which allow for you to carry it to wherever you need to go. And there is onboard storage allowing for even easier access to the components that you need.

If there is one complaint that we have, it’s that some of the features might be slightly overwhelming to you if you have never used a saw of any sort before. But since the manual that it comes with is so thorough and informative, this really shouldn’t be any problem at all!

All in all, we think that this is the best table saw for beginners.

    Pros
    • Super easy to use and handle
    • Strong motor
    • Cuts through anything with ease
    • Easy to carry and take places
    Cons
    • All of the features might be slightly overwhelming

    2. Bosch 4100-09 Table Saw

    Bosch 4100-09

For our runner-up, we have the Bosch 4100-09. This is a high-quality table saw that is very much like the DEWALT DW745 in that it handles very well and is relatively easy to use, along with the fact that it cuts through just about anything with ease and feels good when you use it. That said, there are two reasons why the Bosch 4100-09 is not our number one.

The first reason is that it isn’t very easy to carry around and take places. If you’re working on a bigger project, you’re going to need to do that, and the Bosch 4100-09 has some difficulty with that due to its size, weight, and general heft of the table saw itself. This is, sadly, a fairly big concern for most, and while it is an excellent piece of equipment overall, we can’t give it the top spot due to this lack of portability, which affects its ease of use. As for the second reason, this is because the motor has a bit of difficulty at times —not that often, but still a few times—and we have had no such issues with the DEWALT DW745.

    Pros
    • Made of high-quality components
    • Feels good when you use it
    • Easy to use
    • Cuts through anything
    Cons
    • Clunky motor
    • Difficulty to carry

    3. SKIL 3410-02 Table Saw – Best Value

The SKIL 3410-02 is the best beginner table saw that you can get for the money this year. This is a 10-inch table saw that works well and offers many of the same features that other good table saws offer, and it does so with a good, affordable price tag. Unfortunately, unlike our top two choices, the SKIL 3410-02 lacks a few things that make the others so great.

Yes, the components are of decent quality and it cuts through just about anything. However, the ultimate flaw with the SKIL 3410-02 is that it isn’t the easiest to handle, meaning it isn’t the easiest to use. In terms of handling the SKIL 3410-02, it works, but not as well as it could or should. You get many good features when you purchase this table saw, no one will dispute that, but the simple fact of the matter is that it handles rather clunkily—and that means if you want to cut something, it’ll take a little extra time and energy on your part.

    Pros
    • Affordable and inexpensive
    • Cuts through just about anything
    • Components are high quality
    Cons
    • Clunky to handle

    4. Hitachi C10RJ Table Saw

    Hitachi C10RJ

Hitachi is a well-known Japanese manufacturer. They’ve been in business for many, many years, and their products are usually of fairly reasonable quality. The Hitachi C10RJ is no exception to that rule, but the reason that it isn’t in our top-three is that it doesn’t really have anything special going for it, and it might actually be a bit difficult to people who want a beginner table saw because of all of the features and the confusing manual.

Make no mistake, the Hitachi C10RJ isn’t a bad table saw. In fact, it’s quite good. It handles well. You can cut most things with it. The components it’s made out of are of excellent quality. The thing is, though, it’s just not a very good table saw for beginners due to the many features, confusing manual, and complex design. So, if you are a beginner, this might not be the right table saw for you, even though it is, overall, quite good.

    Pros
    • Well made
    • Good components
    • Handles well
    Cons
    • Complex design
    • Confusing manual

    5. Delta 36-6013 10 Inch Table Saw

    Delta 36-6013

Equipped with a 15-amp motor that’s capable of producing a blade speed up to 5000 RPM, the Delta 36-6013 table saw has more than enough power for any beginning woodworker. Perhaps even more impressively, though, this reasonably priced table saw comes with an extremely generous rip capacity. At up to 25 inches, it’s capable of handling large wood stock that other bench top table saws will struggle with.

A 48-pound weight puts this table saw at the upper end of how heavy you want a portable saw to be, but that’s definitely not a deal breaker, given its ample power supply. We were particularly impressed with the leveling and smoothness of the aluminum work surface, and combining this with an accurate and easily adjustable rip fence makes it great for precision work.

Overall, there’s very little that the Delta 36-6013 doesn’t excel at as a table saw for beginners—and if it came with a few more of the features and options of our top pick, it very well might beat it out. As it stands, however, the five-year manufacturer’s warranty still makes it a worthwhile choice to consider.

    Pros
    • Powerful motor with excellent 5000 RPM blade speed
    • Large rip capacity
    • Generous work surface and accurate rip fence
    • Five-year warranty protects your significant investment
    Cons
    • Somewhat bare bones when it comes to features

    6. Milwaukee Electric Tools 2736-21HD Table Saw

    Milwaukee Electric Tools 2736-21HD

One of the most unique table saw choices available, the Milwaukee Electric Tools 2736-21HD offers something you don’t see on most table saws: cordless operation. Powered by a powerful lithium battery pack, it generates the same power as a 15-amp corded saw—and an even higher blade speed, at a whopping 6,300 RPM under full charge. This left us wondering—can a battery-powered table saw really replace a corded model?

In short: maybe. While we appreciate the power offered by its battery system—offering 600 linear feet of cutting per charge—and were duly impressed by its accuracy and easy adjustability, the 8.25-inch blade just didn’t live up to our expectations. It’s perfectly fine for the smaller jobs that beginners will likely get into, but you may end up outgrowing it over time and wishing you had bought a 10-inch table saw.

    Pros
    • Powerful battery pack
    • Excellent accuracy and easy fence adjustability
    • Lightweight and easily portable
    • Five-year warranty
    Cons
    • Short 8.25″ blade
    • Not a long-term investment
    • Small maximum cut height at just 2.5 inches
    • You’ll probably want to buy a second battery
    • On the expensive side for a portable table saw

    7. SKILSAW SPT99T-01 8-1/4″ Portable Worm Drive Table Saw

    SKILSAW SPT99-11

Worm drive table saws offer a substantial increase in overall cutting power by increasing the available torque. This is especially evident in the operation of SKILSAW’s SPT99T-01—the only portable worm drive table saw that we’re aware of on the market today.

Let’s start with the positives: this portable table saw is built to endure job site hardships, thanks to its all-metal construction. Add that to its durable motor that operates at low temperatures, and it may just be the longest-lasting portable table saw out there today. We love the power provided by the worm drive motor, and the rack and pinion fence system lets you put it to use quickly and effectively.

On the downside, the SPT99T-01 is one of the heaviest portable table saws we’ve tested. And quite honestly, while the worm drive motor provides excellent cutting performance, it’s not really something that a beginner needs on their first table saw.

    Pros
    • Amazing cutting power from worm drive motor
    • All-metal construction
    • Easy to use and accurate rack and pinion fence system
    Cons
    • One of the heaviest portable table saws we tested
    • On the expensive side
    • Maybe too much for beginners

    8. Goplus 10-inch 15-amp Table Saw

    Goplus table saw

At first glance, the Goplus 15-amp table saw seems to live up to many of the expectations we’ve come to have for a beginner’s table saw. It has a respectable power output, a large 26-inch rip capacity, dual bevel cutting, and is equipped with a miter gauge and rip fence. Furthermore, it’s a bench top model that weighs in at a reasonable 46 pounds and comes with a stand that’s easy to set up.

For the table saw beginner, however, we can’t thoroughly recommend the Goplus table saw. In the model we tested, there were so many parts that weren’t properly adjusted at the factory that we felt we needed to do a complete checkup to make sure it was safe to use. While that’s fine for an experienced woodworker, the potential savings offered by this saw can’t justify its fickle and slapdash assembly.

    Pros
    • Good power output and rip capacity
    • Reasonable weight and price
    Cons
    • Poorly made
    • Components are of poor quality
    • Doesn’t handle well
    • Rarely actually works

    9. Rockwell RK7241S Table Saw with Laser

    Rockwell RK7241S

While we appreciate what Rockwell seems to have been aiming for with their RK7241S table saw—a heavy-duty but portable job site saw that could operate cleanly—their execution is so flawed as to make it almost unusable for a beginner.

First, it’s definitely underpowered in comparison to other table saws in this price range. And while the bag for collecting sawdust seems like a good idea, it’s not particularly effective at actually capturing sawdust.

We could go on for quite some time about all the minor flaws in this table saw, but one thing, in particular, stands out as a reason it shouldn’t be used by a beginner: in the model we tested, the motor itself was crooked! This is completely unacceptable and can become a safety hazard in no time.

In short—don’t go for this table saw until they get some of their issues worked out.

    Pros
    • Large rip capacity
    Cons
    • Fold-out fence is flimsy
    • Poorly constructed at the factory
    • Dust bag does a terrible job of collecting dust
    • Way too heavy
    • Lots of plastic in the construction

    10. Craftsman 21807 Table Saw

    Craftsman 21807

The Craftsman 21807 is not a very good table saw at all, much less a good one for beginners. Overall, it is poorly made and poorly designed. Many of the components are of questionable quality, and in order to actually get it to work, you need to do a lot of tinkering with it, even though you’ve already purchased the product.

Ultimately, the biggest flaw with the Craftsman 21807 is that it simply doesn’t work. It might work for a little bit, but it doesn’t work well and it has a tendency to stop working after only a short period of use, which makes this a very difficult product to even consider since it doesn’t even serve its intended purpose.

Sure, you can tinker with it and mess with it and then it might work, but there is no point in doing this when you can get better table saws for less than the price of this one. If there is one good thing about this table saw, though, it’s that when it does work, it’s not that bad. Not that good, but not that bad, either.

    Pros
    • When it actually works, it works okay
    Cons
    • Poorly made
    • Components are of poor quality
    • Doesn’t handle well
    • Rarely actually works

Buyer’s Guide – Choosing the Best Table Saw for Beginners

Ultimately, when we look at purchasing a table saw for beginners, there are two key factors that we look at and consider the most. If it handles well, and how easy it is to use.

    How It Handles

The best beginner table saws handle well. That is a fact. And if they don’t handle well, then it makes your job a lot more difficult and a lot more annoying, because it takes more time and more energy to do what you want to do. However, if a table saw handles well, then it means that it takes less time and less energy on your part, and the process is far quicker and far more enjoyable. This is very important, especially if you’re a beginner.

    Ease of Use

Arguably, this is the most important thing for any beginner. Without this ease of use, it might be a little too complicated and confusing/clunky for you to adequately operate this particular piece of machinery. And that means that whatever you are doing with the table saw will take longer and be more difficult due to the difficulty that comes with not being easy to use.
